Wanderers and gondolas

It's our first full day in Our Chalet and so far the entire trip has been amazing! Switzerland is such a pretty place, and we have all really loved exploring today!

This morning, after our breakfast, we had our very special Pinning ceremony where we all came together to make our promise and talk about the duties to the world our Girl Guides. The pinning ceremony was such a special event because it reminded us of the fact that guides in not just a club in our local area, but a global movement which unites us with 10 million members across the world. We all received a special Our Chalet pin badge which we only receive when staying at a world centre and can't be purchased online or swapped.

After our Pinning Ceremony, we had a tour of Our Chalet and got to learn about the history of it, which included the founder (Helen Storrow), old furniture, donations from different countries and much more.

We then took a walk down the very long hill to get a bus to Adelboden where we had our lunch and a little look in some of the shops. Our next part of our adventure, was the very exciting cable car! Although some of us were a little bit worried of the height of the cable cars, we all built up the courage to embrace this new activity and give it a go! We split into three groups and embarked on our journey up the Alps! Once we started to head up we were greeted with the beautiful sights and we all felt a lot better and not so nervous (Maybe because Helen distracted us by singing her Chalet song).

"At the beginning, I was afraid of going on the cable car but my friends and leaders helped me conquer my fear and I loved it!" Ibby

Once we got to the top , we were amazed and speechless at the most extraordinary sights we had ever seen! We spent some time taking pictures of the views and soaking it all in! It was pretty amazing! After we had spent a little bit of time exploring, we the went down and it was AMAZINGGGGG!!! We want to do it all again!

We then had a bit of free time to explore the village, a lot of us ran straight to the ice cream shop as it was so hot! We then wondered in and out of different shops and bought a few souvenirs. We then began to get a little bit tired so started to head back to Our Chalet via bus and a walk up a big hill (which some of us ran up)! We all had some chill time to relax so a lot of us spent some time in the necker room which is decorated with lots of different, colorful neckers from different people who have stayed here previously. We spent some time reading and looking out the window with the stunning views of the mountains.

Then it was time for dinner! The food was great! We were eating amongst staff from the Chalet where we learnt lots about guiding in different countries. Here at Our Chalet, one person from each table was chosen to be a server and was in charge of our tables food and cleaning up! For dinner we had Cottage pie or Lentil pie which was delicious. We then finished dinner with Eton Mess and talking about our plans for the next day.

We then spent the rest of the evening playing games outside, singing and playing the piano and having some time to relax. What an amazing first full day we have had!
